PrairieCare is a physician-led organization that has provided specialized mental health services to the Twin Cities since 2005. Today, we are proud to say our services span the full continuum of psychiatric care, with the understanding that each patient has unique experiences, life stages, and needs. PrairieCare is a leader in specialized and evidence-based psychiatric services for all ages at 10 locations in the Twin Cities, Rochester, and Mankato. We joined the Newport Healthcare family of services in 2022—the nation’s leading provider of mental health services for all ages. Together, we are helping people of all ages get the mental health care they need and deserve. 

We provide mental health services for all ages, including free mental health screenings, clinic services, an inpatient psychiatric hospital, intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs, and residential services. Our dedicated team of mental health professionals will guide you in accessing the tailored treatment you need. PrairieCare has the appropriate service or program for anyone seeking mental health support, and we will walk alongside you throughout your mental health journey.

PrairieCare is a division of Newport Healthcare, the nation’s leading behavioral healthcare provider. The Mental Health Collaboration Hub is a secure online portal to connect patients in psychiatric or behavioral health boarding situations to safe and healing mental health treatment. The resource is accessible to any health and human service in Minnesota allowing users to match with the appropriate living and treatment settings based on the needs of the patients. 

 


 

In 2022, Children’s Minnesota opened its first inpatient mental health unit and partnered with PrairieCare to deliver high-quality care. PrairieCare provides programmatic guidance and joint clinical leadership for the unit. The two organizations are coming together to deliver the best in medically complex mental health care for children and adolescents. 

No–cost mental health screenings via phone are offered to anybody seeking psychiatric services at PrairieCare.

South Lake Pediatrics

South Lake Pediatrics and PrairieCare Medical Group have been partnering to provide integrated mental health care since 2017. This allows kids and families to receive added care from mental health specialists at South Lake Pediatrics Clinics. Psychiatric Assistance Line (PAL)

The Psychiatric Assistance Line (PAL) is a free service available to health professionals for mental health triage and referral, or for a consultation with a Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist regarding a patient. This is a free service provided by PrairieCare Medical Group through a grant from the Minnesota Department of Human Services and the Department of Health.

  • 2006: Opened Woodbury Clinic & PHP (founded as Prairie St. John’s)
  • 2007: Moved Minnetonka services to Edina
  • 2009: Founded PrairieCare and PrairieCare Medical Group. Established formal affiliation with University of Minnesota Medical School
  • 2011: Opened 20-bed Maple Grove Hospital and Maple Grove PHP
  • 2012: Expanded Edina and Woodbury locations
  • 2013: Opened After-School IOP’s
  • 2014: Opened Chaska Clinic and PHP, Rochester Clinic and IOP, Psychiatric Assistance Line (PAL)
  • 2015: Opened PrairieCare Institute
  • 2015: Opened 50-bed Brooklyn Park Hospital
  • 2016: Opened PrairieCare Maplewood Clinic and PHP
  • 2016: Founded the PrairieCare Child & Family Fund, non-profit 501(c)3
  • 2017: Opened the PrairieCare Medical Group Center for Neurotherapeutics offering Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and First Episode Psychosis services
  • 2017: Expanded inpatient capacity to 71-beds
  • 2017: Opened Brooklyn Park Medical Office Building which houses PHP, Adult IOP and Clinic services (relocating services from Maple Grove)
  • 2017: Opened PrairieCare Medical Group program in Mankato offering Intensive Outpatient Services for youth
  • 2019: Expanded services in Rochester and Mankato
  • 2021: Received legislative approval to expand inpatient capacity to 101-beds
  • 2022: Opened Adult PHP
  • 2022: Partnered with Children’s Minnesota to open a 22-bed mental health unit in St. Paul
  • 2022: PrairieCare becomes a division of Newport Healthcare
  • 2023: Expanded Inpatient Hospital in Brooklyn Park to include young adult services
  • 2023: Launched Mental Health Collaboration Hub
  • 2024: Achieved Pathway to Excellence® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)

PrairieCare Fund

The PrairieCare Fund is a non-profit grant making foundation built on the mission to improve the health and well being of our communities, founded in 2016 by compassionate clinicians, community advocates and legislators.

PrairieCare Fund supports youth mental health and wellness programs throughout the state of Minnesota by offering grants to selected applicants. These generous grants help advocate, prevent, identify, and reduce the stigma of mental health through programs and education in schools and/or districts that are awarded these grants.
