Dr. Gunderson is a Licensed Psychologist who has been practicing pediatric/clinical psychology independently since 2004. Over the years she has gravitated toward training and career opportunities that integrate her skills into medical practices, and enjoys collaborating with medical doctors and nurse practitioners in order to provide a team approach to a child’s health and wellness. In addition, with her school psychology background she is interested in how children’s emotional and behavioral disorders play out in the schools as well as ways that parents and school personnel can collaborate to better support these children. It is Dr. Gunderson’s firm belief that the more the significant adults in a child’s life act as a supportive and cohesive team, the more successful the child will be in more independently dealing with his/her challenges.
Dr. Gunderson primarily uses the evidence-based psychotherapy technique called Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT) to help children and teens with their emotional and behavioral difficulties. This method teaches specific behavioral and cognitive skills to help themselves more effectively self-calm and think through the situation in a more accurate/neutral and less emotionally-driven way. Dr. Gunderson also provides support, guidance, and a degree of case coordination to parents, and often works with parents directly on improving behavior management techniques if needed. Dr. Gunderson also provides comprehensive psychological, psychoeducational, and developmental testing. Such testing may be needed to help better understand the child’s learning and memory, to uncover learning disabilities, and/or to investigate possible developmental delays (e.g. cognitive, social).
Dr. Gunderson is married and has 2 children. Her family loves to spend time together relaxing, playing, and laughing.
