Dawn has been with PrairieCare since August 2014 when hired as a hybrid PRN psychosocial coordinator/therapist. In October 2014 she went full time as the 3rd full time inpatient social worker until obtaining my licensure. For the past 20 years Dawn has worked in various settings in the mental health field primarily with children and adolescents. For the 13 years prior to joining PrairieCare she was a Children’s Mental Health Case Manager and Children’s Therapeutic Support Services provider in Itasca County in addition to coordinating and supervising a supervised visitation program for the county.
Dawn is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and also has a Certificate in Couples and Family Therapy. She is eclectic in her approach when working with kids in order to meet them where they are at and individualize their treatment. Dawn tends to use a lot of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused techniques in addition to DBT and psychoeducation. Dawn feels there is great benefit to the child if the entire family is involved in treatment, she enjoys the opportunity to work with both the individual client and their family.
She loves a wide variety of music and thinks it is one of the most universal coping skills. Dawn likes to use music in sessions and groups, as a lot can be discovered about a person through the music they listen too.
