Jeff comes to PrairieCare after living and working in the Duluth area for the past 25 years.  His experience in Duluth included work as a Case Manager/Team Supervisor for Northwood Children’s Services.  In that capacity he provided case planning and coordination for teams of adolescent boys in residential treatment.  Jeff left Northwood in 1999 and has been employed at the Duluth Institute (formerly The Institute for Psychological and Sexual Health) as a therapist.  The Duluth Institute is a small community based mental health clinic that provides general mental health counseling but with a specialty practice in providing Sexual Offender Treatment and sexuality counseling.  In his time there Jeff provided services to adolescents, adults and built a niche working with clients with a range of special needs (developmental delays, brain injury etc) and addressing their sexuality and sexual behavior problems.

Jeff’s style is eclectic and he makes a specific effort to gain understanding of client learning and communication styles as a means of creating access to address issues.  Given that he has worked extensively in sexual offender treatment his approach is founded on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions and his graduate school training was in Systems Theory.  Jeff’s approach to therapy is to consider a client’s developmental experience and functioning and to gain perspective of their presenting problem within those contexts.  The goal is to increase a client’s understanding of their “whole” self, and to build a relationship with themselves that is congruent between how they think of themselves and the expectations they feel in their world.

Outside of providing therapy Jeff’s primary interests/hobbies  involve time with  family.  He also appreciates music, college sports, and traveling.
