Madonna Mitzel joined PrairieCare in March 2011 in the role of the Occupational Therapist with over 25 years of experience combined in the field and supervisory experience in a variety of OT arenas with her primarily experience is with the pediatric population. Her background in mental health and pediatrics include: hospital inpatient, partial hospitalization and dual diagnosis programs and as an early intervention coordinator. Madonna has extended training in the pediatric areas: Sensory Integration, NDT, Myofascial Release, Craniosacral Therapy, Therapeutic Listening, Healing from the Core, Sensory Processing Disorders and Trauma and Emotional Processing in Children.
Madonna’s approach to therapy is very holistic, mind-body interrelationship and client-centered. A variety of standardized assessments within the OT scope of practice are utilized. Through these assessments she is able to implement strategies to assist the individual in a safe and healing environment. Implementation is also utilized through the group process that supports development of coping skills, sensory regulation, social skills, self awareness, and communication skills. Sensory integration consists of the utilization of music, sensory motor activities, aromatherapy, oral-motor activities, breath work, guided imagery, self awareness, meditation etc… to assist with self regulation. As an Occupational Therapist practitioner, Madonna assists the individual in finding strategies to positively affect their health and well-being.
