Wendy comes to PrairieCare with professional experience including work with children and adolescents identified with severe emotional disturbance, and youth on the autism spectrum. Additionally, she has worked in multiple settings, including residential facilities, communities, and adult foster care homes providing support to adults who have experienced severe and persistent mental illness. Wendy has co-facilitated a number of process and skills groups with both youth and adults, focusing on healthy communication, difficult transitions, relationships, activities of daily living, self-esteem, mindfulness, anger management, and emotions regulation.
Wendy utilizes a strengths based perspective with her clients, and believes in a person -centered approach that allows clients to identify their unique struggles and difficulties. She feels motivation is an intrinsic process, and that when people have the opportunity to explore their individual thoughts and emotions in a supportive and safe environment, real change happens, ultimately resulting in increased mental health. The client is the expert of their situation and experiences. Wendy includes Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction models, as well as Illness Management and Recovery strategies. Additionally, she is a certified group facilitator for DBT (dialectical behavior therapy). Wendy also practices CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) strategies, and incorporate pieces of narrative theory in her practice with clients with the goal of tailoring her skills and various therapy models to best fit client needs.
Wendy incorporates the concept of mind-body-spirit health, and believes that these are interweaved, and an integral part in healing and recovery. She compassionately meets clients where they are on their life journey, and offers hope and possibility in every situation.
Wendy is the mother of three children, and enjoys attending their activities, especially soccer. She loves yoga, meditation, hiking, gardening, nature, animals, spirituality, reading, music and singing, and the theater.
