Dr. Setterberg, PrairieCare’s founder and Governing Board Chairman, is a practicing Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Research Psychiatrist. He earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota and completed his residency and fellowship training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He also completed a research fellowship in child psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York where he then taught child psychiatry for 3 years before moving to Fargo. After a decade developing the Prairie St. John’s facility in Fargo, he relocated to Minneapolis to oversee PrairieCare’s Twin Cities operation. His research interests have included outcomes measurement, clinical information systems, and creating the nation’s first program for using a computerized psychiatric assessment tool for routine screening in schools.
Dr. Joel Oberstar serves as the Chief Medical Officer for PrairieCare and is also an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and the Associate Director of Resident Training and Education in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is therefore a key liaison in the formal collaboration between PrairieCare and the University of Minnesota. Originally, from Chisholm, Minnesota, he attended college at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English and biology with distinction. Dr. Oberstar attended the first two years of medical school at the University of Minnesota-Duluth prior to completing his clinical training at the University of Minnesota Medical School, graduating with his Doctorate in Medicine in 2001.
Todd joins the Leadership Team in the role of Chief Development and Operating Officer. With a clinical background as a social worker, Todd is driven to lead the organization to help better serve our patients and community. He has been a part of the PrairieCare team for since 2006 and has been a vital asset in the development of the continuum of care. Todd leads PrairieCare's Community Relations team in ensuring that the community is aware of the services that PrairieCare can offer.
Susan has worked in the mental health field for over 25 years. She has a psychology degree from Hamline University, a nursing degree from Bethal University and attended graduate school at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. She is licensed and certified to see adult mental health and psychiatric patients for therapy and medication management. She has worked in a variety of settings including state hospital, outpatient settings, nonprofit, and private hospital/clinic settings both inpatient and outpatient. She has worked with mentally ill and dangerous, Addictions: outpatient, detox and inpatient, dual disorder, dementia, psycho geriatrics, eating disorders, crisis stabilization and seriously and persistently mentally ill.
Karen joins the Leadership Team in the role of Vice President of Human Resources and Performance Improvement. She has worked for several years in both clinical and Human Resources roles and strives towards effectively developing, implementing, and monitoring the organization's policies and procedures. She is an integral member of ensuring hospital quality improvement activities and has been with the Prairie family for a combined 7 years, relocating to the PrairieCare team in September of 2009.
Jerod serves in the role of Chief Financial Officer and Vice President. Jerod has been a member of the PrairieCare team since August 2009. With a finance and IT background, he strives to lead with Finance Team with integrity and is dedicated to our mission.
Tiffany serves as the Site Supervisor of the Edina location and continues to work with children, adolescents and families in the Partial Hospital Program (PHP). Her expertise includes in-home therapy, outpatient therapy and teaching parenting classes. She provides an environment where youth and their families can work to minimize problems and find new possibilities for their lives. She empowers those who consult with her to explore possibilities that have become clouded by the problems they face. Tiffany's preference is to be respectful and non-blaming in the approach and center people as the expert in their lives. She promotes this type of relationship by honoring their values, abilities, beliefs, hopes, dreams and commitments.
Chelsea Ritchie serves as the Human Resources Director on PrairieCare's Leadership Team. She is passionate about staffing and maintaining a strong, skilled PrairieCare team. In addition, Chelsea helps ensure that personnel and management practices conform fairly and equitably to policies and procedures within the organization. She started with PrairieCare in March 2008 and has enjoyed growing with the company. Chelsea graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources from Bethel University and enjoys assisting to improve organizational performance.
In his position as General Counsel, John Ryan advises the company on legal matters ranging from healthcare regulatory issues to contracts to patients' custody issues. John began his career with PrairieCare in 2007 and has been the project lead on PrairieCare's 20 bed child and adolescent hospital in Maple Grove. He is well equipped to guide PrairieCare through the highly regulated healthcare marketplace. John has presented at the Physician Owned Hospitals of America National Conference on the topic of overcoming regulatory obstacles in building a new hospital.
Andrea serves as the Social Work and Family Therapy Director for PrairieCare. She is a seasoned therapist, with over seven years of experience as a Clinical Social Worker. She believes in a "wraparound" treatment approach to therapy that includes the patient, as well as caregivers, siblings and significant others. In order for a patient to be successful in treatment, Andrea believes that his or her support system must play an active part in helping the patient maintain positive changes.
