Pediatric Integrative Medicine

Drawing on a variety of healing traditions, pediatric integrative medicine blends the best of conventional and complementary therapies in a personalized plan that best fits each child and family. Providers consider a child’s health from a holistic perspective—whether it is prevention, concerns of general wellness, or care for complex, ongoing illness—and embraces a philosophy of pediatric care involving partnership of patients, families, practitioners and community services. The integrative medicine program offers innovative, holistic care for the whole child—mind, body and spirit—while identifying and supporting each individual’s natural healing capacities.

What Is Integrative Mental Health Care?

An integrative approach to mental health involves:

  • Assessment and treatment from the perspective of mind, body and spirit
  • Consideration of environmental and cultural factors that may impact function.
  • Uniquely trained staff who blend the best of both conventional mental health cares (standardized assessment, labs, medication, and psychotherapy) with complementary strategies (nutrition, massage, meditation and aromatherapy).

Within an Integrative Medicine approach we:

  • provide the most natural, least invasive treatments whenever possible
  • partner in a respectful, collaborative care relationship together with
    • children, teens and families
    • other specialists, school staff and community resources
  • evaluate and treat core imbalances and processes in the mind and body that may be affecting multiple symptoms such as:
    • nutrition, stress, sleep, learning, inflammation, gastrointestinal tract issues
  • support the mind and body’s innate healing capacities
  • teach all children and teens mind/body and other self-care skills
  • educate children and their families about diagnosis and treatment issues
  • assist with care coordination to prioritize and sequence therapies
  • help all individuals build their capacity for “resilience”
    • Resilience: the ability to adapt to and recover from stress, medical conditions and other life challenges
  • utilize the latest functional medicine and nutrition approaches to re-pattern lifestyle factors that play an important role in mental health
