Alexa Baker, BSW

Associate Therapist – Assessment and Intake Department

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree: Viterbo University

Alexa Baker joined PrairieCare as a psychiatric technician for the Mankato Child and Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program in October of 2020, before transitioning into her current role as a member of the Assessment and Intake Department during the summer of 2021. After graduating from Viterbo University in Mayo of 2020, Alexa worked in case management for individuals with developmental disabilities. As a case manager, Alexa would connect clients to resources within their community, such as PCA services, skills workers, or transportation, as well as helping them fill out waivers for benefits, and assisting with their monthly budgeting. In addition, she would run their yearly assessments to qualify for benefits. Alexa then left that role and was brought in by PrairieCare as a psychiatric technician, where she ran groups, implemented interventions for behaviors, and built rapport with the patients.

Alexa particularly enjoys working with children, helping teach them the importance of coping skills and self care, as well as finding positivity in the midst of difficult circumstances. She appreciates opportunities to work with kids dealing with grief and loss, either from a death of a loved one or separation, and helping them through those periods.

Away from work, Alexa enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as doing anything outside, from biking to sitting on the patio reading a book.
