Bachelor’s Degree: University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire: Bachelor of Music

Dewina started her clinical career in the early 1990’s as a music therapist. Her interest in pursuing graduate work was spurred by the desire to gain expertise in a broader range of treatment modalities as well as her strong interest in clinical psychology. Her advanced study of marriage and family therapy has strengthened her skills and passion for seeing patients in the context of their family system, and she believes in the power that relationships have in the healing process. She has worked in long term care, inpatient mental and chemical health care, corrections, dual disorders day treatment, school-based mental health care, and outpatient mental health care.

She is influenced by psychodynamic theory, structural, CBT, DBT, and experiential ideas. Her work is also profoundly influenced by The Gottman Institute as well as emotion-focused techniques. She has specialized training in accelerated resolution therapy (ART), as well as permanency and adoption. She is a board-approved supervisor for LMFT candidates in Minnesota and adjunct faculty for St. Mary’s University of Minnesota—Rochester.

Dewina’s work as a therapist is collaborative and highly relational. She values being “real” and providing the compassion we all need to walk through life. She adheres to the idea that people start to heal when they feel heard and believes it is important for patients to understand how attachment history and relationships influence wellness.

She is thrilled to be a member of PrairieCare’s Adult Intensive Outpatient Program team, as she believes it is an important and much needed service to our community.

Dewina is the proud mother of three adult daughters and have been married for over 25 years; her home is supervised by two adorable cockapoos and two superior cats. Her hobbies include: sewing/quilting, cooking, piano, guitar, singing, and traveling.
