Melissa prioritizes rapport, trust, and the quality of the therapeutic relationship as central to a supportive and helpful treatment process. Having worked in the field of clinical psychology for over twenty-five years, coupled with the experience of raising a child with special needs, she is well poised to relate to a wide variety of treatment needs for the individual as well as their family members. Melissa is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), an innovative treatment for post-traumatic stress and other anxiety disorders that can also be tailored to resolve the “stuckness” that can happen around issues such as a difficult mood disorder, self-concept challenges, self-injury and suicidal ideation, and chemical dependency.
Melissa has practiced in treatment settings with a high level of intensity and complexity and is comfortable treating a wide variety of mental health needs. Much of her early training was in the fields of marriage and family therapy and the coordination of multi-disciplinary treatment approaches. One of her greatest professional strengths is the ability to accurately diagnose mental health conditions when there is a great deal of complexity in presenting symptoms and issues.
In her free time, Melissa enjoys gardening and canning, visiting with her adult children and new granddaughter, and spending time with her miniature Goldendoodle, Sophie. On weekends, she keeps herself humble by attempting to replicate the meals cooked on Food Network, as there is always room for growth and improvement.
